Classroom Procedures Assignments Students assume responsibility for their assignments by:
Parents assume responsibility by reviewing your child's planner at least once a week and signing it. Homework Always includes twenty minutes of silent reading I consider reading to be the most important piece of homework. Student work is completed and neat with a proper heading. If your child does not finish work assigned during the school day they will miss recess to complete the missed work.. Projects and book reports will be assigned throughout the school year as they tie into curriculum. PLEASE NOTE: Homework is meant for practice and reinforcement, not frustration. Let me know immediately if frustrations occurs so we can work together to get to the root of the frustration. Homework Expectations Usually, homework should not take more than 30 minutes a night though it could take up to 45 minutes. In addition, time should be set aside daily for independent reading, studying spelling, and studying math facts. Please encourage your child to do his/her best work. Homework should be neat. All written work should be done in pencil. Homework will not be accepted if written in pen (math), crayon, marker, etc. When completing work on notebook paper the heading should include name, date, subject, and the page number of the assignment.
Late Assignments Students are encouraged to turn in all assignments, as a late score will be more beneficial to their final grade in comparison to a zero in the grade book. If your child does not finish work assigned during the school day it is his/her responsibility to complete it outside the school day, generally this is done at recess. Daily planners will be used to record all assignments and projects. I will use it to communicate missing assignments and will ask parents to sign the book each Friday. Absences Attendance is important in the methods I use to teach various subject matters such as, small group work, hands-on activities, thinking skills, class discussion, etc. Regular attendance is vital to the academic growth of your child. Refer to the Handbook for specifics.
Discipline CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE PLAN
I firmly believe that lifelong success depends on self-discipline, I have developed a Classroom Discipline Plan that gives every student the opportunity to mange his or her own behavior. The guidelines for this plan were created to foster a positive, peaceful learning atmosphere. Behaviors are reinforced with affirmations and acknowledgement. Children who make poor choices are lead through a process of self reflection, which may end in a process of apologies or amends. See poster on wall for specifics of Academic Rules of Conduct and Classroom Rules of Conduct.
Rules of Conduct: z Be Respectful z Be Responsible z Use time well z Do your best work
When a student breaks a rule: First Occurrence: Green card pulled (warning) Second Occurrence: Yellow card pulled (fill out a think sheet signed by student and teacher and kept on file) Third Occurrence: Blue card pulled (miss a recess to write a letter to parents explaining behavior, sent home for parent signature) Fourth Occurrence: Red card pulled (school detention)
Severe Clause: any or all of the above; parents called; sent to principal.
When a student follows all the rules: ü Receives a BEE ticket (10 = extra recess) ü Compliment from the teacher ü Certificate or note home to parent ü Reward coupon ü Extra Computer Time
