Written Work |
Written work must be neat and tidy. Full name appears in the upper right hand corner on the first line followed by the subject and page number (some prefer to put this on the left side of the paper on the line and that is ok too) on the second, and the date on the third line. Two lines are then skipped and the work begins next to the line on the paper. On a math paper 1-2 lines are skipped after each problem and all work must be shown. Students are not allowed to use cursive writing until we have learned the letters in class. Pen may NOT be used to do any math work. We use both sides of the paper. A copy of the rubric for written work is in the handbook. Click on the dog to the left for a copy of the Standards for Written Work Rubric. |

Parent Communication |
Parent communication is a key factor in the success of a child's schooling. Communication in my class takes on many forms, email, phone calls, hand written notes. Not only is it important that I as the teacher keep in contact it is important that you as the parent keep me informed as to how your child is progressing with homework, problems he/she may be encountering in a subject area or with peers. Please keep in mind that when you email it is very important to put a subject in the subject line. This is a matter of courtesy and proper email etiquette. I will always include a subject in any email that I send. On occasion I will write a note in a student assignment book. It is vital that you look at these nightly. Please see the B.E.E. Binder section for more on communication. |
|
Friday Folders |
Friday Folder will be yellow this year. Please expect to see it each Friday unless otherwise noted, when a half day falls on a Friday it is more than likely the folders won't come home. This is one of many communication tools I use to keep parents abreast of what is happening in their child's school life. The students will be responsible for filling out a piece of information each week. The Friday report is to be signed and remain in the folder, they should be returned the following Monday. |
|
Third Grade Handbook |
The Third Grade handbook is new this year. I looked over all the handouts I give at the beginning of the year and again on Curriculum Night (Open House, Back To School Night) and compiled all the information into a book that will be handing out on Curriculum Night and discussed. Please keep it hand to refer to when questions arise. |
|
Bee Tickets |
Bee tickets are a reward when kids are "caught" on task, receive a compliment, are following all the rules, complete all work both in class and homework, have their B.E.E binders daily, and have no overdue books at the end of each trimester. Once a student has received 10 tickets he/she may remain at recess with the upper grade kids. Inappropriate behavior or not following school/class rules will result in the loss of a ticket. |
|
Tests |
Spelling tests are given twice weekly: Monday-Pretest and Friday Post test. This does not change. There may be times when the test has to be given on Thursdays but the class will know this. Friday is also reserved for basic math fact time tests this does not change. Assessment tests are given at the end of each chapter in all core subjects. Advance notice is given to the class and recorded in their assignment books and The Buzz. |
|
Birthday Treats |
Please refer to the school handbook with regard to invitations being sent through school. Remember a child's feelings can easily be hurt. Treats may be brought to school and will be passed out during lunch time at 11:30 and occasionally will be passed out after lunch recess. If it is not possible for the treats to be dropped off in the morning they may be dropped off in the office and someone will deliver them. Remember you must sign in at the office if you are going to bring them down yourself. |
|
Medication/Illness |
All medication that a child is to take must be down in the office. Please refer to the handbook for further information. A note must be sent in if a child is bring cough drops to school. In case of an illness please notify the office if you want work sent home and with whom. |
|
B.E.E. Binder |
B.E.E. Binders are new this year. I am adapting them from a model I learned about over this past summer. These must be taken home and brought back to school each day. Bee tickets will be given for those who remember, students who forget will lose bee tickets. For further information about this click on the little black dog to the left and he will take you to a more detailed description. |
