Curriculum Notes

Math:  Students were introduced to chapter 7, “Display and Interpret Data” today.  We will work through the first four lessons this week and take the mid-chapter quiz on Tuesday, March 16.

Social Studies:   students were handed the chapter nine study guide on Friday in preparation for this Thursday’s test.  We discussed the material in lesson four today.  Tomorrow students will receive guided review for the information on the study guide.  Wednesday will also include an entire class period devoted to reviewing the information in this chapter.

Literature: This week’s selection is titled “The Mystery of Mars.”  It is an expository article which gives an overview of our current knowledge about The Red Planet.   The notes on the essay questions will be discussed in class on Wednesday, but not due until Friday.  The extra time should help ALL students complete the assignment portion of the notes and allow for better test preparation.

Language:  The verb agreement quiz will be tomorrow (on lessons 1-9).  Students received the review worksheet today that mirrors the quiz.  Later in the week we will focus on contractions with not and irregular verbs.

Religion:   Fifth graders will finish up their study of Lent this week with the quiz tomorrow and their papers due Wednesday.  Later in the week they will begin studying the Ten Commandments.

Science:   This week we will continue our unit on Entomology as we look at an overview of the similarities and differences between different arthropods. We will also be observing early insect development as we await the hatching of the egg sack of the specimens of Mantis religiosa, or Praying Mantis, we have in class.
