Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a restful and enjoyable break.  The students came back to school a little sleepy this morning, but we hit the ground running!  Here’s our plan for the week.

Important Dates:

1/11 – Full Day of School – non-uniform

1/11– 5th Grade to Daily Mass

1/11 – Spelling Test (Food Chains)

1/11 – Literature Assessment (Food Chains)

1/16 – 2:00pm Matthew House Presentation

Curriculum Notes

Religion: This week we are discussing the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.  Students will create definition posters of each, focusing on symbols of each as well as a written definition.  There will be a test on chapter six sometime next week.

Prayer journals will be handed back tomorrow, and become part of the nightly homework again this week.

Science: This week we will begin discussing the major biomes of North America. We will be referencing our experiences at EE week to reinforce the learning we experienced there as well as help to make connections to other parts of the world.

Math:  We will begin chapter seven this week – Decimals.  Students will gain an understanding of decimal place value before moving on to addition and subtraction of decimals.

Literature:  This week we are reading an article titled “What are Food Chains and Food Webs.”  Students should be able to draw on their knowledge from science class and their experience at Camp Seymour for this selection.  The open book assessment will be on Friday.

Social Studies:  We are starting our study of the Revolutionary War.  This week we will focus on the reasons colonists became unhappy with British rule.  We will cover lessons one and two from chapter seven.
