Curriculum Notes

Religion: We are reviewing chapter six (Baptism and Confirmation) in preparation for the test on Friday. Students were handed the chapter review worksheet today. At the end of the week, we will begin studying the next prayer the Archdiocese expects fifth graders to know – Prayer for the Faithful Departed.

Science: This week we are continuing our study of the world’s biomes, moving from those found in North America to those found throughout the world. We will be studying the general characteristics of several of these biomes.

Math: We are continuing our work with chapter seven (Decimals) this week. We will focus our attention on addition and subtraction of decimals. There will be a quiz on Thursday and the chapter test will be scheduled for next week.

Literature: We are reviewing the unit “Energy at Work” in preparation for an end of the unit assessment on Friday. Since this is a review week, there will be no new spelling list, but we will be reviewing the roots, prefixes, and suffixes of the past five weeks in preparation for Friday’s assessment.

Language Arts: We will have several short lessons on specific writing skills this week. Early in the week we will focus on short persuasive paragraphs. At the end of the week I hope to move the focus to expository paragraphs.

Social Studies: This week we are focusing our attention on the initial quarrels and conflicts leading to the Revolutionary War. The chapter seven test is tentatively scheduled for Thursday the 24^th. The study guide will be handed out on Friday.
