Curriculum Notes

Religion: Mass Booklet project sheets were handed out today.  Students were given an opportunity to ask questions and start working on this project today.  They will continue working on it in class all week.  Before the due date next week, two entire religion class periods have been set aside to work on this project.  Students who are unable to complete the work in the time allotted at school will need to finish up for homework.

There will be no prayer journal assignments this week.

Science: This week we will begin our unit on Entomology, the study of insects. We will be looking at general characteristics and behaviors of insects and how they are classified. We will be discussing the already assigned Exam Project in class where I will answer questions, but we will not have class time to complete the project. The project is due February 12th.

Math:  This week we will focus our attention on the multiplication and division of decimals.  We reviewed multiplying by 10, 100, 1,000… today.  Students who are still having difficulty with any decimal concepts were encouraged to seek additional help from me.

Literature:  This week we are reading “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.”  The assessment will be done over a two day span, just as last week’s.  Please see the attached letter regarding Literature.

Language Arts:  The adjective/adverb test this week will cover five selected lessons from the English book: “What is an Adjective” (p152-153), “Comparing with Adjectives” (p158-159), “Adverbs” (p246-247), “Comparing with Adverbs” (p250-251), and “Adjective or Adverb?” (p252-253).  Students will review in class tomorrow.  At the end of the week, we will begin looking at Prepositions.

Social Studies:  This week we are talking about political cartoons and how they were used during the War for Independence.  We will also work through the material in chapter eight, lesson two “The Decision for Independence.”  The chapter eight vocabulary quiz will be sometime next week.

Have a great week!
