Curriculum Notes

Religion: Students had another 45 minute period to work on their Mass booklets.  They are due on Thursday.  The chapter 10 test is tomorrow.  At the end of the week we will look at the Archdiocesan vocabulary lists for 4th and 5th grade.  The date for the quiz on these words has not been set.

Science: This week we are continuing our study of Entomology. We will be looking closely at the types of metamorphosis found in insects as well as other arthropods. We will also be identifying the major anatomical structures of insects, comparing them to diplopods and crustaceans. For the past week and a half, many people have been coming to class with excellent questions about the Biomes Project and we have been able to have outstanding discussions in class concerning the display. The Biomes Project is due Tuesday February 12th.

Math:  This week and next week we will be reviewing chapter eight in preparation for next week’s test.

Literature:  We are beginning to read the next selection, “The Master Spy of Yorktown.”  This will take us through next week because of the long holiday weekend.  Assessment for this selection will be on Thursday and Friday of next week.

Language Arts:  Students have indicated that they would rather take the spelling test on the words from “The Master Spy of Yorktown” this week because next week is so full of other assessments.  This week we will also take a test on prepositional phrases.  Students do not need to have memorized the list of common prepositions by Thursday’s test, but knowledge of them will help.  Next week, we will be taking another look at the different types of verbs.

Social Studies:  We are finishing up chapter eight this week and reviewing it next week. The chapter test is scheduled for Thursday the 21st and the vocabulary quiz for Friday the 22nd.

Have a great two weeks – especially with the long weekend in there!          Natalie Conrow
