Curriculum Notes

Religion: This week, we will look at Catholic Social Teachings in relation to a woman in Guatemala and a boy in India.  Our lessons will come from stories of real people who have benefited through Operation Rice Bowl donations to Catholic Relief Services.  Students are encouraged to continue buying bottled water in support of the 7th grade service project as a part of their Lenten alms giving.

Science: This week we will be studying the general characteristics of insects and how these characteristics allow them to survive in their specific habitat. We are well along with our Tenebrio Observation Habitats, studying the scientific method as we add both food and larvae in a controlled experimental manner. We will be closely observing the metamorphic change in insects as we study our Tenebrio habitats.

Math:  This week we are focusing on graphing on a coordinate grid using ordered pairs.  Students will complete a skills review at the end of the week and take a quiz on chapter nine on Friday.  The test will be next week.

Social Studies:  This week we will be focusing on the major debates that the founding fathers had when writing the Constitution, and the compromises that they finally came to.  Students will also learn about methods of transportation and travel times in the 1700s.

Literature:  We will be reading the final selection from our unit on “Making a New Nation.”  “Give Me Liberty!” is about the writing of the Declaration of Independence.  This week, both pieces of the assessment will be given on Thursday due to the half day on Friday.

Language Arts:  In conjunction with the end of the literature unit, we will be reviewing several grammar concepts taught over the past month.  We will discuss adjectives and adverbs, and prepositions and prepositional phrases.  The spelling lesson this week focuses on comparatives and superlatives.

It was wonderful to see many of you at the auction – and congratulations to the Tilques who took home the beautiful clock made with our class’ statements about what they would make time for.

Have a great week!
