Curriculum Notes

Religion: We will be taking a quick look at chapter 11, “Living God’s Word”, this week.  We are relating the content of this chapter to good choices we can make during this Lenten season.  No formal test will be given on this chapter.  We will also begin learning the Queen of Heaven prayer in preparation for an oral test on it sometime next week.

Science: This week we will continue to study our Tenebrio Observation Habitats, watching the development or our organisms and maintaining a fresh food supply for our specimens. We will also study a more detailed anatomy of an insect, including external and internal structures.

Math:  We are preparing for the chapter nine test on Wednesday.  The test focuses on patterns with shapes and numbers, identifying the rule in a series of numbers, and basic coordinate graphing with ordered pairs.  At the end of the week, we will begin looking at chapter ten – Fractions!

Social Studies:  Students will be finalizing their persuasive letters to George Washington this week.  We will also be discussing the three branches of our national government (lesson four) in preparation for a test on chapter nine next Thursday, March 20.  Look for the study guide to come home this Thursday.

Literature:  We will be wrapping up our unit on “Making a New Nation” this week.  Students will be assessed with a persuasive writing prompt as well as with a multiple choice section on spelling and vocabulary as well as on comprehension of reading selections presented on the test.

Language Arts:  As we work to edit our social letters, we will be taking a closer look at grammatical conventions.  Specifically we’ll talk about punctuation sentences correctly, and using commas in a series (unit five, lessons one and three).
