Curriculum Notes

Religion: This week we are focusing on memorizing the Queen of Heaven prayer for oral testing on Thursday and Friday.

This morning we made get well cards for Father Kraft who presided over First Eucharist for this class.  He has cancer.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Science: This week we will be concluding our detailed study of the insect’s anatomy. We continue to observe our Tenebrio Habitats, watching as our larvae turn into pupae. We are still waiting for adults to emerge in the habitat, hoping they come before Easter break.

Math:  We are working with fractions (chapter 10).  This week we are looking at equivalent fractions and the differences between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Social Studies:  We are reviewing chapter nine for Thursday’s test.  Students were given the study guide today, and we will work through the material on the study guide in class on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Literature:  We wrapped up our unit “Making a New Nation” last week, and won’t begin a new one until after spring break.  Our new unit will have a science emphasis, and is titled, “Our Corner of the Universe.”

Language Arts:  This week we are working on our expository writing skills.  Students are writing letters to the naturalists at Camp Seymour identifying and explaining connections between what they learned at camp and what they have learned at St. Brendan.  I will send the letters to camp over spring break, but don’t worry, copies will also be sent home after the break for you to see!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Have a wonderful and restful break!
