Curriculum Notes

Religion:  This week we are talking about the material in chapter 17 “United in Christ” as background information for our study of the sacraments of service.

Family Life:  We will talk about two chapters this week: Communication and Change.  Both lessons fall under the unit heading “God’s Gift of Self.”  Look for a family faith page to come home on Thursday.

Science: No update from Mr. Fairbank this week, as he is on the Mount Saint Helens field trip with the eighth grade.

Math:  This week we will be reviewing the material in chapter 11 in preparation for the test on Thursday.  The two lessons on adding and subtracting mixed numbers with different denominators (pages 360-365) require the students to use all the skills presented in the chapter.  Students should have set of notes on the steps required for each of these two lessons.

Social Studies:  We are finishing up our discussion of the Louisiana Purchase and will begin talking about The War of 1812.  The chapter 11 test will be next Thursday or Friday.

Literature:  We are wrapping up our unit on space this week.  Students were presented with the end of the unit spelling/vocabulary list today.  There will be a narrative writing assessment on Thursday and a multiple choice assessment on Friday.

Language Arts:  This week we are taking a look back at the beginning of the grammar book.  Students will complete end of the unit assignments on sentences, nouns, and verbs.  These assignments will assist me in planning grammar lessons for the remainder of the school year.
