Curriculum Notes
Religion: This week
students will be working with the material in chapter 19, “Living as
Christians.” We are focusing on the
concepts of the family as the domestic church and virtues.
Family Life: Our two
lessons this week will be on chapters eight and nine, “Friendship” and
“Marriage.” The vocabulary on the lesson
on friendship includes the words heterosexuality and homosexuality.
The
Human Reproduction booklet used in last week’s lesson will be sent home via the
Wednesday envelope from the office this week.
Science: This week we will be conducting an in-depth study of
a specific member of the raptor family: the owl. This study will include
habitat, behavior, anatomy, and diet of various species of owl.
Math: We have
finished our study of chapter 12 on the multiplication of fractions. We will be reviewing the material this week
in preparation for a chapter test on Friday.
Social Studies: We are
continuing our discussion of chapter 12, “The Way West.” This week we will talk about the
administration of Andrew Jackson and the continued push into the western
frontier.
Literature: Our story
this week is titled “Bill Picket: Rodeo Ridin’ Cowboy.” It is the story of a an African American
cowboy living on the
Language Arts: The spelling
list is long this week, with seven words reappearing from last week. Please take some extra time to work on these
words with your student.
At
the end of the week, we will take a quick look at lyric poems.
