Curriculum Notes

Religion:  We are finishing our discussion of chapter 19 this week.  Students have been asked to look for specific examples of how their families act as the domestic church.

Family Life:  Our two lessons this week will be on chapters nine and ten.  The “Communities” chapter talks about families in the larger society and touches on divorce and separation.  The chapter entitled “A Caring World” focuses on our connectedness to each other and our role as stewards of the earth.  Please don’t forget to write a note after you have discussed the family pages at the end of each unit.

Science: This week we will be researching and discussing characteristics of different members of the raptor family in small groups. This will lead us to our conclusion of the raptor unit on Monday, which will consist of a group presentation on each group’s assigned raptor.

Math:  This week we spend discussing ways to organize data (chapter 13).  Students will learn about pictographs, broken line graphs, line graphs, and circle graphs.

Social Studies/Language Arts:  Students will work this week to create a brochure on a specific state.  Students took notes on the required section of the brochure and our brainstormed list of topic choices for the other sections.  The final brochure will be due next Tuesday.  We will spend three class periods in the computer lab/library researching and creating the brochures.  Students will be expected to turn in a list of sources and notes taken as they research their state.

Literature:  For our final literature selection, we are reading “Ghost Towns of the American West.”  Students will also be performing skits for their final literature book projects on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
