Curriculum Night

Thank you to everyone who attended curriculum night.  It was great to get to meet many of you.  The handouts for those of you who did not attend will go home in this week’s yellow folder (and yes, the yellow folder really is coming home this week).  If you have any curriculum questions, please send me an email!

Curriculum Notes

Religion: We are reviewing chapter one this week (Sacraments of Creation) for a test on Wednesday.  We are also discussing our gifts from God and how we can use them to show His glory.

Science: This week we will be looking at the food cycle through food chains and food webs. We will also look at trophic levels within ecosystems and how this affects all organisms from producers to the top consumer in the system.

Math:  Students are continuing to work on adding large numbers using those super important place-value skills.  A quiz on the first part of chapter one will be on Thursday.  Math will be split into two smaller groups beginning next Monday.  Look for a letter regarding the split to come home later this week.

English: We are continuing our work with subjects and predicates this week.  Looking ahead, the unit one test will likely be mid to late next week (Thursday?).

Literature:  We will finish our discussion of the first story in our reader, “The Land I Lost,” this week.  Students will be assessed on their comprehension of this story on Friday.

The spelling list for this story went home today (on purple paper).  The test will be on Thursday.

Social Studies: This week students are diving into the mystery of the lost colony of Roanoke.  They are coming up with theories to explain the disappearance of the colonists, and will be working collaboratively to come up with a creative group theory before writing a script showcasing that theory.  Project sheets will be handed out Tuesday or Wednesday.
