E.E. Week Medication

Just a reminder that we require a doctor’s note for all medications brought to camp.  Prescription medication must be in the original container with the prescription label.  We prefer for over the counter medications to also come in the original containers, with the child’s name written in permanent ink.  However, we will accept over the counter medications that come in a sealed plastic bag, with the child’s name and the name of the medication written clearly in permanent ink.

Independent Reading Projects

Students will be required to turn in one book project a month beginning this month.  Typically, I will assign a genre of literature for them to read each month and they will be able to pick from a list of projects.  This month, I am allowing students to read a book of their choice, but will require everyone to do a poster project.  Project and grading sheets were handed out today.  The poster is due on or before October 31st.

Curriculum Notes

Religion: We are almost finished with our discussion of the material in chapter two.  Students will receive the review worksheet tomorrow in preparation for the test on Thursday.

We talked about prayer journal responses again today.  I have provided two sample responses for your students.  They are available in the classroom for students at any time.  I will continue to provide sample responses for different prompts throughout the month.

Science: This week we will continue to explore the ocean as an ecosystem. We will begin with a study of plankton and their role in the food chain. We will then conduct a detailed study into phytoplankton as the primary producer not only for the ocean but the entire worlds’ trophic system.

Math:  Ask your students about the algebra they have been doing – most are very excited!  Today and tomorrow we are reviewing chapter one in preparation for Wednesday’s test.  At the end of the week we will begin a discussion of multiples.

English: The unit one test will be going home in this week’s yellow folder.  The grammar concepts we study this week will come out of the Literature lesson.  No new material will be covered from the English book this week.

Literature:  We will read the third Heritage story in our reader, “The Dancing Bird of Paradise.”  Because Friday is a half day, the spelling test will be on Thursday.  Also on Thursday, we will do the written portion of the assessment together in order for students to gain a better understanding of what complete answers look like.

Social Studies: The date of our plays is set!  Come see our class perform their Roanoke Plays next Thursday, the 11th at 1:00 in the Music Room.  Plays will be finished by 2:00.  We will be rehearsing all week, with feedback provided to all groups by their classmates and by me.
