E.E. Week

Can you believe we are only one week away from the big trip?  As you help your student pack, please remind him/her that he/she will carry everything from the parking lot, through camp to the cabin (and back again).  Students should pack lightly!

Also, I have not yet received any doctor’s notes granting me permission to dispense medications.  If you can get those in this week, that would be great.  I’d prefer to have notes and medications by Monday so they can be carefully packed for our trip instead of thrown in at the last minute.

Money for the camp store (maximum of $32.00) should be sent in a sealed envelope or plastic bag with the student’s name clearly visible on the outside.  I would also prefer to have this in by next Monday.

Curriculum Notes

Religion: We are reviewing the required Kindergarten vocabulary and prayers.  Students will take a quiz on the vocabulary tomorrow.  The Joyful Mysteries are on hold until we get back into the computer lab to finish creating our study guides.

Science: This week we will be reviewing the information we have learned about communities and cycles looking for connections between the forest and ocean ecosystems. We will conclude this week with final preparations for EE week.

Math:  This week fifth graders will focus on the mental math strategies for multiplication.  There will be quiz on the first half of chapter two on Friday.

English: We will continue to discuss plural nouns, focusing on those with irregular spellings.

Literature:  The Heritage writing assignment due date has been moved to Wednesday since we forgot to include it in our assignment book on Thursday.  Students should finish this at home and bring all copies and prewriting to turn in with their final copy.

This week we will read a story set in the Civil Rights era called “From Miss Ida’s Porch.”  The assessment will be on Friday.

Social Studies: This week will be the first week we use our textbook in earnest.  We will work with the first lesson in chapter five, “Europeans Settle Throughout North America.”  This week our focus will be on the Spanish colonies in the Americas.
