Curriculum Notes

Religion: The chapter 13 test is scheduled for Thursday. The fifth graders are also working hard to prepare for the Easter Season mass on Friday. Please join us as we lead the liturgy!

Science: This week we will be reviewing for our Entomology Unit Exam, which is on Wednesday. The exam will consist of three sections: multiple choice, true false, and identification. The information on the exam can be found on 4 of the handouts distributed in class. They are titled: Entomology, General Insect Anatomy, Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, and Detailed Insect Anatomy Key.

Math: We are diving into the addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers this week with the beginning of chapter eleven. We will be working with the material in the first four lessons this week.

Social Studies: We will be finishing up our newspaper article assignment this week. Revised drafts of articles are due on Wednesday when we will begin putting our final projects together in the computer lab.

We are also working on finishing up the material in chapter ten this week. The vocabulary quiz will be this Friday, and the chapter ten test will be Friday, April 25^th.

Literature: This week we are focusing our attention on “The Mystery of Mars.” Students seemed to be very enthusiastic about this selection during our lesson today. The writing assessment will be on Thursday and Friday.

Language Arts: Our language arts focus this week will again be tied to the social studies assignment. Today we talked about the different traits of writing that will be used to assess their writing: ideas, word choice, organization, and voice. We talked about the different voice expected for each article. Students should have a handout for the first three traits and notes for voice.
