Curriculum Notes
Religion: This week we
are beginning a discussion on the sacraments of healing (chapter 14). We will also have our very first Family Life
lesson on Thursday. Chapter one is
titled “Family Ties” and focuses on family traditions and what makes a group of
people a family.
Science: This week we are beginning our next unit of study: recycling. This week we will focus on a definition of terms and broad ideas surrounding recycling, decomposition, and pollution by both humans and natural processes.
Math: Our focus
this week will be on subtracting fractions.
Students will learn how to subtract fractions from whole numbers and how
to borrow from a whole number in order to subtract fractions.
Social Studies: We are
finishing up our study of chapter ten this week and reviewing the material for
Friday’s test. Students were given a
yellow study guide today to aide their studying.
Students
who wish to re-take the vocabulary quiz (handed back today) for an averaged
score need to schedule their retake date with me tomorrow. All retakes must be completed on or before
Friday.
Literature: This week we
are focusing our attention on “Apollo 11: The First Moon Landing.” Students seemed excited about this selection
and were asking many more questions about the moon landing than I was able to
answer!
Language Arts: Our language
arts focus this week will be tied to the literature unit. Students have written two science fiction
stories over the past two weeks. They
will have the opportunity to bring one of these stories through the writing
process to the publishing stage.
The
social studies project that was started two weeks ago should be completed
during our computer lab time on Wednesday morning.
