Curriculum Notes

Religion:  We reviewed for tomorrow’s test on the sacraments of healing today.  Students should have some notes from this discussion to review as they study.

Family Life:  Our lesson on Thursday will be on moods and changes in moods.  We will discuss how to deal with these changes.  Look for a family page to come home on Thursday.

Science: This week we continue our unit on recycling through a study of plastics. We will be observing and discussing the classifications of various plastics as well as the benefits and drawbacks of each type.

Math:  Our focus this week will be on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with different denominators.  These problems require several detailed steps and students are encouraged to check and recheck their work.  The test on chapter 11 will be next week.

Social Studies:  We are beginning our discussion of chapter 11 “On the Move.”  This week we will focus our discussions on pioneers moving across the Appalachian Mountains and the Louisiana Purchase.

Literature:  This week we are focusing our attention on “Ellen Ochoa: Reaching for the Stars.”  Last week Mrs. White and I agreed that students no longer seem to need two class periods to complete the assessments.  Both assessments will be given on Thursday since there is no school on Friday.

Language Arts:  This week we will have several grammar mini-lessons.  Today we focused on apostrophes and quotation marks.  Later in the week, students will work with sentence fragments and run on sentences, subject-verb agreement, and agreement with be and have.
