Subject Update

Literature/Language Arts: Today, we spent 1-1/2 hours in the lab typing up the final drafts of our persuasive essays.  These are due on Wednesday; in case students need some more time to finish typing them.  We will also continue our English unit on verbs.

Math: We will be continuing to work with Geometry this week.  There will be a quiz on Thursday.

Religion:  We are finishing up with Chapter 12 this week.  The students will have a test over Chapters 11 & 12 on Tuesday of next week.  I will be handing out a study guide tomorrow (Tuesday).  Students should be finishing their boat projects this week also, as they are due on Thursday.

Next Thursday, May 22nd the 6th graders will receive the much-anticipated Human Growth and Development lesson in family life.  Mrs. Conrow and I will be teaching the girls, while Mr. Fairbank and Mr. Evans will be teaching the boys.  A pamphlet with information about the lesson will be going home with the students that day.  If you would like to preview it before the lesson, please let me know and I will forward a copy to you.

***As you know, on Wednesday we are taking a field trip to tour St. James Cathedral downtown.  We will be leaving around 9:30 and arriving back about 1:30.  All students will need to bring a sack lunch for the day.  The office has notified the lunch people that we will be gone so that they can credit your accounts.  Students need to wear their uniforms, as we are representing our Catholic school!

Science: This week we begin our study of wetlands. We will begin with an introduction to the four primary types of wetlands and some of the distinguishing characteristics of each.

Social Studies: We are finishing up our study of Ancient Rome.  We will discuss the decline of Rome this week.  Booklets are due on Tuesday and the vocabulary quiz will be on Friday.  The chapter 8 test is will be sometime next week.  No study guide will be handed out for this test.  Instead, students will have three days of test prep in class with direct instruction on how to focus their studying and where to find information that will likely be on the test.

One last note, mid-trimester reports went home on Friday.  Please be sure you have looked them over.  Thank you!

Have a great week everyone!

p.s. For our next art docent lesson, students will need some magazine pictures.  If you have extras you’d like to donate, please send them with your student.  Thank you!!!
