It is a busy week for
us! Between extra music practices,
today’s Advent prayer service, Wednesday’s Mass, and 2 guest speakers, we won’t
get a whole lot of instruction time this week.
That’s why this subject update below is a little short. Here is what you
and your student can expect this week:

Subject Update
Literature: This week in
The Westing Game, we will be working in groups to create a character board that
includes all the information on the characters and clues we have gathered so
far. We will be finishing up the book on
Friday or Monday of next week, with a final test on Wednesday, December 19th. Mrs. White will be meeting with students to
give the end-of-trimester reading fluency assessment. The results of these assessments will go home
either next week or after break, depending on how many she can get through
before break.
Language Arts: I will be sharing some great student examples that
illustrate what elaboration really sounds like and how to incorporate sensory
images into their descriptions. We will
have our normal spelling schedule this week, as well.
Math: The students received progress reports last
Wednesday (December 5). These need to be signed and returned by Tuesday
(December11).
The 6th graders
will be working on the following this week:
·
Division;
adjusting the quotient
·
2 digit divisors
·
2 digit
divisors with zero in the quotient.
Religion: With the
guest speaker coming from Cameroon Mission and Mass on Wednesday, Father Jim’s
visit on Thursday, and extra music practice in the church on Friday, we won’t
be getting through much religion this week.
I’m hoping to at least start Chapter 4 sometime this week.
Next Tuesday (12/18), grades
6-8 will be participating in an Advent retreat in the church. A facilitator from the Archdiocese will come
in to lead the students in activities and prayer to help us embrace the joy and
meaning of the Advent season.
Social Studies: We started our discussion of Ancient Nubia (chapter 4) today. Our discussion of this civilization will largely center around its similarities and differences from that of the ancient Egyptians. Students should expect a test on this short chapter before Christmas break. There will not be a vocabulary quiz for this chapter.
Have a great week everyone!
