Dear Parents,

 

Important Dates:

            May 7              Mid-Trimester Reports

            May 15            Music Concert Students need to be in the classroom by 6:45

            May 16            All School Mass          

 

Language Arts:  This week we will be starting Unit 4 on Modifiers in English.  I will also be introducing a new writing assignment, which is a topic and mode of the student’s choice.  Since the majority of the year has been spent writing about topics that I give the students, I thought it would be nice if they had a chance to write about something of their own choosing.  We are back on a normal spelling and root of the week schedule this week.

 

Literature:  The students will be reading and taking notes on a Scholastic News edition, which focuses on the presidential primary election at hand. With their notes, they will be participating in the game ‘quiz bowl,’ a jeopardy-like game in which they have to answer questions based on the information from the articles in the magazine.  I know that the students have been reading Three Cups of Tea in religion, which they are finishing up this week.  So I decided to wait to introduce our last literature circle unit until they finished that book.  I will be giving them all the information on our new literature book on Friday (The Witch of Blackbird Pond). We will begin reading it next

week. 

 

Math:   The seventh graders will be working on the following this week:

·        Solving percent problems

·        Multiple step percent problems

·        Chapter 9 review

·        Chapter 9 test, Tuesday May 13

 

Students need to check their stocks through May 16. Progress reports will be sent home Wednesday.  Please sign and return by Friday.

Next Friday, May 16th- Chapter 16 Test (just on Chapter 16)
