Dear Parents,

What a great turnout, Friday evening for curriculum night.  I enjoyed meeting everyone.  Feel free to email anytime you have a question or concern.

Language Arts: We will be spending most of the week revising the rough drafts of our Courage papers.  Students will be peer conferencing and receiving feedback about how they might revise their papers.  I will also be conferencing with some students to offer suggestions.  We will go to the lab on Thursday to type their final drafts, which are due on Friday.  In addition, students have their Root of the Week worksheet which is due on Thursday.

Literature: The students watched the movie Rikki Tikki Tavi today and compared it to the story (which we read last week).  Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be finishing up our discussions about the story.  There will be a quiz over it on Wednesday.  Later in the week we will start our second short story: A Boy and a Man.

Math:  This week the students will be working on mental math strategies, using division, data from graphs, and choosing a computation method.  These are the next four sections in their book.  Sometimes it takes longer to complete a section, and we do not finish everything in the week. We will complete the section the following week. You can expect your child to have homework Monday through Thursday with a quiz on Friday.

What a treat to see so many parents at Curriculum Night.  Even though our time together was brief, it was nice to connect even for a few minutes.

Seventh graders have entered the Middle Ages.  Tomorrow and Wednesday I will teach two styles of note-taking.  Wednesday we will prepare for our first test – Lessons 1 and 2 in Chapter 9 in addition to class notes.  Seventh graders will take the test Thursday 9/20 when I am at the Fair with the 8th graders.
