9/24/07
Seventh
graders took their first history quiz on Friday. I hope to have the corrected tests back to
the students Tuesday so we can discuss their answers.
This week,
students are learning about the Crusades and bubonic plague – events that
changed
project.
Language Arts
In addition
to our normal weekly spelling and root of the week activities, the students
will be starting on Unit 1 in our English text, which focuses on the basic
structure of the sentence. This includes reviewing the 4 types of
sentences, subjects and predicates, and conjunctions.
Literature
We will
continue reading ‘A Boy and a Man’ in our text and work on answering
comprehension questions with depth. Also, Friday is the due date for the
September independent reading requirements. All books for September need
to be finished and the related tests completed by Friday. I have met with
each student in the last week to check on their progress. Please take a
moment to ask your child how he/she is coming along. Remember that a
minimum of one book per month is required.
Other information
Like many
of you, we are concerned about the amount (and weight) of books the 7th
graders must carry around with them during their morning classes (because they
don’t return to their homeroom until lunchtime). In order to help with
this situation, we are purchasing another bookcase for my room which will be
used to store the students’ Literature, English, and Religion texts. This
way they will not have to carry them back and forth each day. If they have
homework in these texts, they will be responsible for bringing the book(s) back
the next day. I hope this will help! =)
