Students learned about the cataclysmic consequences of the bubonic plague in a simulation activity.  The plague struck in the classroom, killing about 1/3 of the class.  The survivors had to figure out how to keep our country, Seventhgradia viable.  I think the “game” helped many of them to better understand how the epidemic changed Europe forever.

This week, students take on their first social studies project.  We begin the week with national symbols and move to Chapter 10 – Empires in Asia and the Americas.

Language Arts

The students will be receiving their Courage papers back on Tuesday and we will spend some time talking about these.  They will have the option of revising it for a 2nd grade.  We will also spend some time this week discussing how the writing WASL is analyzed and scored.  This will help the students to understand what they will need to focus on over the next several months.  The root of the week is ‘dict,’ which the students will be completing their worksheet on.

Literature: There will be a test over the story ‘A Boy and a Man’ tomorrow.  The students had time today to re-read the story and go over the comprehension questions to help prepare for the test.  Later in the week we will move on to the story ‘Zoo.’
