Dear
Parents,
Below is
the academic information for the week.
Math: Since this is a short week, the students will only be
working on dividing by powers of ten.
They will also have a quiz on Friday.
Language Arts: Today in writing the students learned about T.A.P. +1, which stands for Topic, Audience, Purpose, and Form (the +1). We talked about how writing prompts will give you information about each of these elements. Then the students practiced identifying each element within a given prompt. This skill is important for our preparation for the writing WASL in the spring. It is also helpful whenever writing to a prompt in general. Tomorrow we will continue working on Unit 2 in our text. There may be some work that students need to finish over the long weekend. There will be no spelling or root of the week activities this week.
Literature: Today we started reading our next short story ‘Amigo Brothers.’ The students will be asked to finish this story and complete the comprehension questions at the end by next Monday. They should also be reading a minimum of 20 minutes for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of their own material to work towards the November independent reading requirements.
***On Tuesday, students will be bringing home a permission slip for a field trip we will be taking on Tuesday, December 4th. We are attending a performance of the play ‘A Christmas Carol.’ This is certainly a classic holiday favorite. It is also one of the featured plays in our text book, which we will begin reading next week. If you are interested in driving/chaperoning, please indicate so on the permission slip. We will be gone from 10:45 to about 2:15. Thank you!
