November 26

Dear Parents,

After parent conferences, ITBS and Thanksgiving, it is great to be back into our routine.  We have 4 weeks until Christmas vacation and a lot to do.

We began Lesson 4, the last lesson in Chapter 10 today (Monday).  Your kids did an excellent job of making inferences about the Aztecs from a simple list of accomplishments and facts.  I truly enjoy the level of participation in this class.

Later this week I will introduce the Chapter 10 project.  This project involves some time in the computer lab so I will carve that out for us.

Thanks to the Seventh Grade for their help at the Thanksgiving Assembly!

Language Arts:  We will be finishing up Unit 2 in our English text over the next couple of days.  The 7th graders will have a test on Thursday.  We are back to our normal Spelling and Root of the Week activities this week.

Literature:  We will spend the week reading the last part of The Christmas Carol in preparation for our field trip to the Act Theatre next Tuesday (12/4).  There will be a test over the written play probably next Wednesday (12/5).

The November independent reading requirements are due this Friday.  Please continue to encourage your child to keep up with their nightly reading (20 minutes each night), so that they aren’t scrambling at the end of each month to finish their books and tests.  Since December and January are short months for school, I will collect the reading log and tests at the end of January, not in December.

Math:  Beginning this week, each student will receive a Problem of the Week on Monday and it will be turned in on Thursday.  They must explain in detail how they found their answer.

The next Math progress report will be sent home on December 5.

This week the 7th graders will be working on the following:

·        Division

·        Interpreting the remainder

·        Dividing decimals by whole numbers

·        Writing fractions as decimals
