December 10, 2007

Here are some important dates for this week

December 12               All School Mass (students must wear their

                                                                             Red sweatshirts)

December 14               Report cards go home

Bring unwrapped items for the giving tree

Christmas concert at 7:00 pm.  (Students need to be in the

                                                                                                    Classroom by 6:45)

The 7th graders are having extra music this week to prepare for the concert on Friday.

Religion:  Your child received his/her Vocabulary Test, Mass Quiz, Mysteries Test, and Mother Teresa report back last week.

Today I returned the Advent calendar your child made in computer lab last week. The calendars were well done! Please post the calendar and check if your child has completed the daily task designated as part of his/her Advent journey.

Your child is studying the Third Grade vocabulary list. There will be a test only on 3rd grade words next Tuesday, December 18th.

Students need to be reviewing the Music CD and words Jeanette gave them last week. They have a few practices this week and then the real concert is this Friday night!

Language Arts:  The students will be learning about persuasive writing this week by participating in a mock debate.  In this debate, they will be asked to argue a particular side of an issue (ask them about it) and be able to address the opposing argument, as well.  This will lay the foundation for the elements of writing their persuasive essay later in the week.  The due date has yet to be determined, depending on how much we get through this week.  We will have our regular spelling schedule this week.  There will be a short quiz on the Greek & Latin roots we have covered so far on Thursday.

Literature:  The students will begin reading the 2nd play in our Drama unit, The Flying Tortilla Man.  I anticipate that they will have a quiz over this sometime late next week.

Math:  All the students received progress reports last Wednesday (December 5).  These need to be signed and returned by Tuesday (December11).

The 7th grade math class will be working on the following:

·        Writing an expression with decimals

·        Solving equations involving decimals

·        Writing equations with decimals

Chapter 10 Test – Wednesday, December 19

Mrs. Lunn, Mrs. Riley and I are juggling schedules to give the 7th graders enough class time to prepare for the chapter test and complete projects.  I am well aware of the many time constraints and am adjusting my expectations to meet them.
