Dear Families,

What a treat to see so many of you at Curriculum Night.  I enjoyed the chance to preview our year with you.

I still need 1 – 2 drivers for the Puyallup Fair.  Please let me know by Tuesday afternoon if you can drive.  If we do not get the drivers we need, I will have to cancel the trip.

¯ ACADEMICS

HISOTRY

Eighth graders discussed consequences of the Columbian Exchange and the concept of applying a multicultural perspective to European exploration.  This week we begin to examine the new colonies.  Students have a history test on Friday over sections 1 and 2 and class notes.

RELIGION

Students received their Service assignments today (Monday) and reviewed a Code of Conduct – expected behaviors during service work.  Students begin their service work this Wednesday, September 19.

Your kids planned and will present the first all-school Mass.  We celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew Friday, September 21, 2007 at 9:00.  Please join us!

LANGUAGE ARTS

We have been writing “hard” news stories with a final copy due Wednesday 9/19.  Students will receive their Fair “beat” assignments and will be asked to do some research at home.  In class, we will talk about interviewing techniques and my expectations for the Puyallup Fair articles.

LITERATURE

The students are reading and learning vocabulary from The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter.  They took a test Friday, 9/14/07.

MATH

Due to technical issues, I am not able to include Ms. Riley’s math update.  maryr@saintbrendan.org
