Dear Families,

With the Fair, all-school Mass and our first week of school service behind us, the students and I are looking forward to a week of “regular” school!

As Autumn settles in, several students are already battling colds.  Even though they are 8th graders, this morning I reviewed the importance of hand washing.  We all want to stay as healthy as we possibly can.

¯ ACADEMICS

HISTORY

Eighth graders took their first History quiz on Friday.  This week we begin to study the Thirteen Colonies.  We discuss why Europeans came to this “New World” and take an in-depth look at each of the colonies.

RELIGION

Students perform service for the second time this week.  With thirty students, I am working to be sure there is a job for everyone.  Please ask your student to be patient as I work out the kinks.

Students were assigned an essay related to the prayer, “God of the Gathering.”  This essay is both a Religion and Language Arts assignment.  The first draft is due Thursday, September 27.

Daily Mass this week – Thursday, September 27.

Your kids’ presentation of last Friday’s all-school Mass was flawless.  Each student did a wonderful job.

LANGUAGE ARTS

This afternoon we did a “Read-Around” with their Fair news articles.  Mid-week we will tackle another “hard news” story and hopefully get to news feature writing by the end of the week.

LITERATURE

The students continue to read The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter.  They read Chapter 9 aloud using a modified Reader’s Theatre style.  We are blessed to have many wonderful speaking voices in this class.

MATH

Due to computer issues, (yes, AGAIN!) I am unable to post Ms. Riley’s math update.
