St. Brendan’s PTO Board Meeting
April 2004 Minutes
Attendees: Margie Schmutz, Julia Walters-Burns, Betsy Maxwell, Mary Jane
Fatigati, Sally Sonnen, Brenda Roberts, Teri Clark, Maria Perez- Torkildson,
Arlene Sullivan and John Vandenberg
The Board, Committee Chairs, School
Function, Enrichment Coordinators, Teacher Representatives and Guests, met in
the teacher‘s lounge. Julia and Margie
called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
Margie Schmutz led all those present in a prayer.

Budget Discussion (J
Vandenberg):
Highlights:
1. The teachers will be paid at 98% of
the Washington State Base
2. Parish subsidy will stay the same as
lat year
3. PTO subsidy would increase 4.1% -
Amount Requested is 76,000 for 2004-2005
4. Tuition would increase approximately
3.3%
Principal’s Report (A Sullivan) Father Lawrence and Arlene have been
interviewing new families. Arlene
reported that there is a lot of new talent coming into the school next
year. They are taking time to make sure
that the new families understand compliance with commitments. Arlene reported the following number of spot
are open in particular grades:
Kindergarten 9
openings
1st Grade 1 opening
3rd Grade 1 opening
5th Grade 1 opening
7th Grade 4 openings
8th Grade 2 openings
ITBS has just finished up.
Holy week is next week then spring
break. Next week the seventh graders
will be performing the Stations of the Cross.
The new parent meeting is scheduled
for April 22 it will be held in the library.
The meeting is for parents only.
The tentative for the start of next
year will be Kindergarten picnic 8/29, first day of school 9/7, Bite of St.
Brendan 10/29, Craft Fair 11/13-14 and the Junior High Play
4/8-9/05.
Past President Report (D Fong) - There are two School Commission
positions available for school parents and one from the parish at large. It has been decided that the parent does not
to be catholic to hold this position.
Treasurer Report (M Fatigati):
Highlights:
1) Auction
totals are almost all in:
$3,000.00-Family
Auction
$75,000.00-Auction
2) Sally
Foster was down this year by 5%
3) Bite
of St. Brendan was a wash this year.
REPORTS
Fund Raisers:
Scrip (S Sonnen) -
The chairs are meeting with John Meyer to discuss selling scrip at every
mass this summer. People would be able
to pick up their standing orders at mss also.
The website needs to be more widely publicized. March sales were $24,000.00 compared to last
years $17,000.00.
Committees:
Playground:
Concerns were voiced about the proposed
timeline and actually being able to install the new equipment during the this
summer.
OLD BUSINESS
There is
still a need for committee chairs in the following areas:
Craft Fair
Improvement
Speech
Hot Lunch (Needs
a new co-chair, it has been suggested that this position be split between 2-3
people)
The spring
Concert is on May 20. it was suggested
that the concert be videotaped professionally but not to use the company that
had done the Junior High play.
NEW
BUSINESS
It was
proposed that volunteer hours would be from May to May. This will need to be communicated so that
people will understand.
Arlene
asked that instead of each teacher making out a wish list that the teacher
would like to take that $10,000.00 and purchase new computers for each
teacher. This was approved.
It was decided that the fee for the memory book
will be included in the PTO dues at the beginning of the year.
It was
decided that PTO dues would be increased by $1.00 per student.
The auction
software has not been upgraded since it was purchased. This needs to be done the projected cost is
between $500-$1000.00.
The Vo
family will be supplying uniforms out of their home. These uniforms will be at a lower cost to
school families. It is being planned
that they will come to school twice a year.
It is planned for 5/24 and again in mid-August. The sale would work as a fund raiser for the
school also.

and Julia adjourned the meeting at 9:00 pm.
