The PTO meeting was called to order at 7:01pm.  Arlene Sullivan led the meeting in prayer.  The motion to approve the November minutes was made by Lynda and seconded by Carolyn.

Principal’s Report: (Arlene Sullivan)

We just received the posters for the celebration of light, which is Feb. 3. Arlene will be speaking at the Masses about how we got started in the mid 1800’s in Western Washington.  Some of the things that we will be doing:  The eighth graders will be writing letters to the sisters that taught here, a huge banner signed by the whole school will be carried over and left in the narthex for Catholic School’s week, and after the 8:30 and 10:30 masses there will be an open house next weekend.  The class representatives will be sharing something that their class is proud of to help celebrate Catholic Schools week.  Friday there is an appreciation luncheon; there is also an appreciation for the parents, that same Friday (Feb 3.)  Sports teams and speech teams are going strong.  Mary Decker, a writer for the Bothell-Kenmore Reporter, is writing an extensive article on St. Brendan.

Mark Lamb, the mayor of Bothell, is signing a proclamation celebrating 150 years of Catholic Schools.

Treasurer:

Joan McIntosh was unable to attend.

Auction: (Liz Kieffer and Krystie Pilukas)

Mike Cano is shadowing Mike and Lynda Weldy for technology, Robin Peloquin and Diana Munko are shadowing Anita Novak and Jeff Fong for finance.  We all went to the Lynnwood Convention Center and laid out all of our finance and discussed rooms.  Elisabeth Cano and Teresa Morrow stepped forward to do the silent auction closing.  Donations are starting to come in fast.  Our live is full, our almost live is full.  We will have two closings.  Right now we are hoping that more items for the tables come in.  We have volunteer positions that we need to add and change some of the descriptions for the handbook.  The auction donation requirement is going up to $150 for next year.   Invitation prices will increase to $65/person or $130/couple for this year.  The $5 for the classroom auction basket will now be collected at the beginning year with PTO dues.  Invitations are well on thier way, we are sending out 350 invitations this year, an increase of 50 over last year.

Father Jim donated a two separate Thai dinners for 10 adults.  He also donated an opportunity for five families to have a live recording session with him.  Father Jim will make CDs of the recording sessions for the families.

The teachers are doing a wine tasting.  The School Commission is donating a star gazing party.

Scrip: (Michelle Ryan)

Since July, Scrip sales have been over 154 thousand dollars.  We can’t compare this to previous years because of a difference in the software.    November and December were very good months, people took advantage of the preorder option.  The scrip program has paid the PTO back the $15,000 that it borrowed.  A few people have ordered large quantities of Home Depot/Lowes for projects.

Memory Book: (Lynda Weldy and Raelyn Colleran)

We have received the new camera.  We are not sure where to leave it, this will need to be figured out.  It can’t be left in the safe because it needs to be charged.  We still need pictures for the memory book and appreciate any that come in as long as they are labeled with the grade they are from.  We are trying to emphasize service projects so we will have a two page spread focusing on this.  The clip art sheets have been sent out.  The whole project is going to be digital this year.  Becca Gotz is designing the cover for the memory book.  The opportunity to design the front and back cover for 2007 will be sold at the auction.

New Business:

Update from Mike Cano

Mike is setting up the new computer.

We had discussed at the November meeting that we had approved buying a new PC to replace the Windows 95 machine that is in the PTO room. It has been ordered and is here.  Mike took it to the lab; he is working on setting it up with the operating system and the auction software to have it up and working by Monday (January 16.)

Hot Lunch

Hot lunch will need a new chair if it is going to continue for next year.

Basketball Tournament:

We are going to do the basketball tournament exactly as it has been done in the past.  We already have the gym reserved for the weekend of the 25th/26th.  It was discussed doing volleyball instead of basketball for the women.

Appreciation Lunch for Staff:

Tracy Lambert emailed and they are on track for the appreciation luncheon.

Christmas Concert:

Christmas concert videos was successful, we sold enough to cover the costs.

PTO Speaker:

The PTO speaker this year is going to be Father Jim.  In March he is going to give a presentation, open to school and parish families, about how to get kids more involved in their faith.

2007 Play:

The 2007 play is tentatively scheduled for March 23/24th in Everett but we are still working with the new Northshore Performing Arts Center to have it at Bothell High School but we don’t know if the scheduling is going to work out.

Closing:

Liz made a motion to adjourn at 8:05 p.m.  The motion was seconded by Carolyn.

Respectfully submitted,

Desiree Engel
