Principal’s Report:

*The yearly earthquake drill will be held on September 22nd.  The drill has been greatly simplified.  There will be no role playing.

*Curriculum night will be held the evening of September 22nd.  There will be no gathering in the gym prior to meeting the teachers.

*Father Jim has made a commitment to visiting all classrooms on a regular basis.

*The week of September 18th the children will be watching a play about anti-bully.

*School security estimates are in.  The final proposal should be done within two weeks.

School Commission:

No report.

Sally Foster:

$4,000 online sales to date have been sold.  Sally Foster will be ending on September 22nd.  Entertainment books are still available.  Look for more information regarding entertainment books in the next bulletin.  A reminder that candy delivery will be in November.  The committee has a goal of $20,000 profit for the school.

Hospitality:

They hosted a back to school luncheon for the staff on August 28.  They were able to serve 25 people for only $85.

Box Tops:

The school made $1,000 last year.  The chairs are hoping to raise that amount again this year.  It’s a FREE and EASY way to earn money for the school.  There will be a class competition to see which class collects the most box tops.  The winning class will be rewarded with ice cream.

Family Nights:

On October 27th there will be a Sock Hop Dance.  This family night event will be in place of the Bite of St. Brendan’s.  The dance will be held from 7pm-9pm.  There will be a band, games, pictures and goodies to eat (no dinner).  The prices of the tickets are still being considered.

Room Parents:

All head room parent positions have been filled.  The annual Room Parent meeting is still to be scheduled.  The role of the room parents has changed a little this year.  Jennifer Peterson is working on creating a new job description for each grade.

Auction:

*The theme has been decided – Casino St. Brendan

*Date and location set – March 3rd at the Lynnwood Convention Center

*Looking into having an earlier start time (cocktail hour).

Auction Cont:

*The auction committee is still in need of some people to fill chair positions.  The larger positions are: Family Night (BINGO)

                                    Invitations

                                    Basketball Tournament

                                    Centerpieces

*Eileen Warner is the procurement chair.  All returning families will be either receiving a hard copy or email copy of last year’s donations.

*John Curly has been reserved as the auctioneer for the evening.

*It would help the auction committee greatly if all auction donations could be turned in by December 31, 2006

*The idea came up to have a table at the craft fair to extend the invitation to the public.  Marianna Cannon will help coordinate.

Carpool:

There was a discussion regarding the impact of the new carpool rules.

The following was discussed:

- Traffic backup on 195th
- Since there is no parking in the church parking lot how do we accommodate families who are meeting up with other carpools, children who need to stay on the school property for sports and children who need to leave quickly for a doctor’s appointment.
- Children needing to put backpacks in the trunk/back of cars.

Notes were taken by Carolyn Casey who will review them with Mrs. Lunn and report back at the next PTO meeting.

Script:

The script committee is in need of weekday volunteers.  They need volunteers for both the am shift in the PTO room and the afternoon shift during carpool.  This would be a great job for a mom with a toddler.

Emergency Preparedness:

The emergency preparedness drill is scheduled for September 22nd.   Volunteers will be notified.

New Business:

Mrs. Lunn has asked the PTO for $3,000 to help fund some new reading textbooks for grades K-3.  A motion was made and approved to help fund the books.  Mrs. Lunn is hoping to buy new reading books for grades 4-8 next year.

Old Business:

Reader Board – It’s still a work in progress.  The man building the board for our school has injured his finger.  His injury has greatly delayed the work on the board.  It should be here in the next few weeks.  The school will need a volunteer to change the board on a daily/weekly basis.

Hot Lunch - The new hot lunch program has gotten great reviews!  The kids seem to love the food.  Mr. Callen has stated that there is less garbage being tossed.   Some areas for improvement would be having the ability to have one credit card transaction per family and to be able to order more than one entrée per student per day.

Closing:

The meeting adjourned at 8:20pm

Respectfully submitted,

Kim Kramer

Secretary
