TUITION POLICY

Tuition Rates

Father McGirl and the parishioners of St. Brendan Parish conceived and developed St. Brendan School in 1966 for the children of the parish then, now and for years to come. Their goal was to create a parish school with a solid academic foundation grounded in the traditional Christian ethics of the Catholic Church. The school continues to enjoy the support of the parish, and the parish continues to demonstrate pride in the growth and development of its parish school by maintaining a commitment of financial support despite other major financial responsibilities the parish has assumed in recent years both in the operating subsidy and the school addition remodel financing.

Because St. Brendan Parish School is supported by St. Brendan Parish, we are able to offer families a reasonable tuition rate. For the 2009-2010 school year, St. Brendan School will again offer the Active/Contributing Parishioner (in-parish) tuition rate to qualified St. Brendan and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish families. In return, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will subsidize St. Brendan Parish School for each student. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton families will remain actively involved in their parish and abide by their parish’s participation requirements.

Tuition is collected August through May. The registration fee is non-refundable. Tuition is due on the 5th of each month. A grace period of five days is allowed. Payments made after the 10th (unless pre-arranged) will be charged a $10 per month late fee.

Tuition shall be paid by the 5th of the month beginning in August. After this initial payment, all tuition accounts should be sent to school in a sealed envelope (family name & the word: “TUITION”) in the name of your oldest child and given to his/her classroom teacher. Monthly payment books will be mailed home by the middle of July and a coupon should be returned with fees each month. Money may also be collected for missionary help, school pictures, book clubs, subscriptions, bake sales, field trips, special assessments for art or other supplies.

Church Contribution Monitoring

To remain eligible for the Active/Contributing Parishioner tuition rate throughout the year:

  1. Families must have a current stewardship of treasure commitment card on file with the parish office at the time of school registration in March. Those choosing not to do this will be charged the non-parishioner tuition rate for the following school year. They will be charged the non-parishioner tuition rate until their financial obligation to the parish is met.
  2. At the end of December, and prior to school registration for the next year, a check of contribution records will be made to insure stewardship commitments are being fulfilled. Those who are behind will be notified and asked to meet with representatives of parish and school leadership. Those choosing not to do this will be charged the non-parishioner tuition rate for the following school year.
  3. At the end of June, prior to mailing tuition payment booklets, another check of contribution records will be made. Those who are behind in their commitments will be notified and asked to meet with representatives of parish and school leadership. Those choosing not to do this will be charged the non-parishioner tuition rate until their financial obligation to the parish is met. They will be charged the non-parishioner tuition rate until their financial obligation to the parish is met. Those behind at the June check who were also behind at the December check and met with parish and school leadership then, will automatically be charged the non-parishioner tuition rate for the following school year. As Catholic school parents, let’s all work together and meet our hourly and financial commitments.

Tuition Assistance

A tuition assistance fund is available through the Archdiocese of Seattle’s Fulcrum Foundation. An application form must be filled out and submitted to the Archdiocese by March for the following school year. Assistance is determined by the foundation and for accepted applicants for the next school year. The application form may be picked up in the school office.

St. Brendan Parish School is committed to providing affordable education to families by offering tuition assistance through the Father Mike Schmitt Scholarship Fund. Limited funds are available for those who show a genuine need. For consideration of assistance through the Father Schmitt fund, families must apply to the Fulcrum Foundation first and then complete additional paperwork for the Father Schmitt fund by June 15th. Tuition assistance is determined by the principal and pastor before August 1st based on a need index and financial criteria. Families receiving tuition assistance must meet the same requirements to be eligible for the Active/Contributing Parishioner tuition rate. Support of the parish is primary for all school families.

Fundraising

Due to the lower tuition rate and necessity of parish support, there is an obligation upon the families through PTO to become involved in fund-raising. This fundraising commitment is absolutely necessary to meet the PTO financial obligation to the annual school budget. The fund-raising activities for St. Brendan School are the Holiday Craft Fair, the School Auction, Fund Wrap and Scrip. Every family is required to support these activities.
